Hi all,
Can someone please help me with PSE submission form. I finally found some time and money to be able to ask for certification. Unfortunatelly, it brings me some obstacles. This is for the first time when I am trying to send something for a cert and of course I am not a native english speaker. What a surprise .

I hope this topic can also help to some other cert-newbies

Here is a submission form and questions are below:

Q1: Yes, I have MasterCard but why is there space as '$___' and what should be there?

Q2: Should I type something into or it is only for PSE?

Q3: I don't understand insurances. This insurance is something different then Q6? Is it just my estimation or I should use some advanced calculation?

Q4: Can I keep default 50 there or I should again estimate grade of my item?

Q5: I don't have current catalog and I don't want to buy it. How can I get a correct value? What if I put there a wrong value?

Q6: Same as Q3.

Q7: This field is grey. Is it only for PSE?

Q8: The best question at the end. What is it "Gold Copy"?

Is there something else what I should fill up?

Thanks in advance to everyone who is willing to help me.

Jingi, is this for your possible # 389 Orangeburg coil?

Kevin, thanks for answering the questions. Since Jingi isn't a native English speaker, let me elaborate:

1. Start with question #2. then come back to this one. Fill this with the total amount from #2.

2. Fill in each of these with the fees found on the back of your form or from the PSE website.

3. Enter the dollar amount that you want the shipping service to insure your stamps for when they are returned to you. Estimate it like you would for question #5

4. Enter the minimum Grading value that you will accept. If PSE determine that the grading is lower than what you enter here, then no Grading value will be put on the certificate.

5. Estimate how much it is worth. Enter the estimated price of a real 389. They will correct this number when they return it to you.

6. Enter the dollar amount that you want the PSE to insure your stamp for. This is not for the shipping service. This is for when they are in possession of it.

7. Enter the dollar amount from "Total Charges" from question #2.

8. If this is a paper form, then you keep the gold/yellow colored copy for your records.

I'm not sure about all of these, so anyone please correct me if wrong.

Yes, this all is for my hopefully genuine #389...
I am also thinking about sending more stamps at once. In my colection is quite suspicious #388 and some other nice items. One shipping - one price.

Thanks a lot for your answers. Now it is more clear for me.

Just two additional q:
Q4: If I left there default 50 it can return to me for example with 80, right?

Q8: Ok,I will print a form, fill it by hand, then make a black/white copy and this copy will be sent with stamps. Funny, the biggest problem is to understand what the Gold Copy is

Thanks kevin504 and Historical DNA Collector!

The gold copy is the copy of the form on yellow paper, which you keep and send the others to PSE. Jerry

Q4 Yes.

Q8 Yup, you might want to make a scan or take a picture of your filled out submission form before sending it.

Good luck!

Jingi.....unless the item has a chance of grading 90 or better....
A regular cert is best.

Kevin,
Newbie question. Does having a grade lower than 90 potentially hurt the monetary value?

I would say yes....
a grade of 80 is VF.....current/basic catalog value.
Why would one want a cert with a grade of 50???
The amount of points dedected is stronger that the cert wording.

I would rather have a cert say (just example)...
genuine, small tear @ left
than...
VG 50 - small tear @ left

The higher the grade, the more monetary value....
The lower the grade....the less value.

Kevin, thank you for elaborating. It seems that there is no benefit to having a grade of 80 to 90.

I personally see no benefit under 90.....
Atleast at 90....you know it is "better" than Scott listed VF.

(IMHO)... *if* Jingi's specimen turns out to be a GENUINE 389,
it would be illogical to spend the money to have it graded...
it'll likely sell for a higher price to the investors market,
whom chase high-end material, such as the Orangeburg coils,
leaving that door open to (them) to have it graded, after they
bid the sky for the stamp against each other with the sanctity
of the PSE cert...

disi, if Jingi's 389 is legitimate and grades high, wouldn't that increase the demand? Do you see it as a less than 90 or 80 grading? If so, then I would agree with you and let them fight over it as an investment despite how a collector would value it.

OK....a #389.
According to PSE website.
THEY HAVE ONLY GRADED 5.....
2 = 30
1 = 75
2 = 90

Can a picture of this item be posted in this thread???
