Hi again Folks.. I bought this envelope the other day at a stamp fair. it is dated 16.5.1862 I have put my other stamps beside the ones I am interested in for comparison.. all of the others I presume to be 65s' So are my new stamps possibly 66tc or 64a ? or just dark 65S' all suggestions appreciated, thanks.

Is there a date on that cover you bought? there were different shades and some can command a premium. Read this if you are interested in studying them to maybe figure out what you have but there are also a few specialists here too that may help. http://www.3cent1861.com/ |

65 covers are my favorite. I'm sure these are just 65s 99% without having them. Nice color. |

Well indeed they are #65's as indicated by the date (1862) but it appeared that perhaps he was looking for a little more information on them like maybe a shade / an "August shade" or, you know, just more exacting information? I'm sorry I didn't I.D. it for you in my original response. Respectfully -Jeff |

Hi Ilovestamps.. to be honest I did not know what to expect.. it is just that These stamps are intensly different in shade than , what I presumed to be, my other 65's These stamps have a far deeper maroon/Brown shade than the others.. But if These are typical 65's then it leads me to question my other stamps..

Remember....this was the 1860s. There was no exact science to mixing inks. Also...father time can have something to do with it. |
