My son being the curious toddler he is, enjoys looking at daddy's stamps. A couple weeks ago I had him sitting on my lap as I was sorting Precancels and he was pointing to them telling me what colors they were. My wife had a coworker give her an old fashioned photo/scrapbook album her came across cleaning out his parents garage. It was his sisters stamp collection that she did for at least 3 years in the mid to late 1980's when she was a child. Unfortunately, all the stamps were glued down to the black paper.
I was going to just trash it, in fact it was next to the trash can with some boxes. Charlie saw it and asked why daddy's stamp book was in the garbage? I told him it was damaged and he still seemed interested in it. So I asked if he would like to have it and he said yes. He then asked for more stamps to put in the book. I will now be giving him my damaged stamps to mount in the book. He likes trains, animals, vehicles, and sea shells. Now I just need to keep his interest. If we make it to the St Louis Expo (I'm still unsure, because of unexpected expenses)I will make it a point to go to the youth room and get him some more free stamps(he is being babysat). He is only 2 1/2 and way to active for a busy, crowded stamp show.

Don't worry, I'll stay on it. But not too much pressure, I could turn him off to them altogether.

It's great when kids take an interest. And not necessarily just in stamps. And that young!

He likes money too, to put in his piggy bank. He really likes the characters from the Disney/Pixar movie Cars. Maybe I can find some stamps for that. Plus, they would go with my Route 66 collection.

I hope my kids in the future would also like collecting stamps. It makes me wonder however what the future holds considering the new technologies that might come out. Even today, stamps are getting rare considering the convenience of emails and the use of machine printed postage. But I hopeto pass on my collection to one of my kids someday.

Even if all nations stopped issuing stamps immediately, collecting would still go on. The number of stamps out there in various hands boggles the mind. And as older collectors pass on, the stuff just keeps getting recycled to newer collectors. I think there is hope for the hobby no matter what! A good portion of ebay is one gigantic recycling machine. And there are additional dealers and stamp auctions everywhere.

Larry,
I would have to agree with you. Look at all the other obsolete things people collect that weren't around as long as stamps have been.

Yes. I agree. But young collectors will hae no access to ebay and they will be just lucky if they have a relative who is a stamp collector who can help them start there hobby...Usually, starting collectors usually look at the mail as the source of theur stamps
