Does anyone know which firms belong to these perfins? Maybe the M is from Fred Miller, but with the rest I'm totally clueless...

Here are three more US Perfins I'd like to identify. All of these are on Scott 1213 (5c George Washington stamp of 1962):

I'm finding it difficult to identify many of the perfin stamps I have. Its hard to find any good information beyond searching through 100's of PDF files I've found online. Typically, there is no photo to compare. If anyone has a better method, please let me know.

I agree. You really need the Catalog of US Perfins, but it is prohibitively expensive for the casual collector who only occasionally finds a few here or there. I think the catalog is priced somewhere around $90 (plus shipping), and there's newer supplement(s) that can easily add to that price.

Fortunately, we have a few perfin experts on this site that often help us beginners identify the common ones we typically come across. Hopefully, they'll respond to this thread for us.

If no one else posts the quiz answers, I will look them up when I get home this evening.

For me, it's more the fact that I have no idea what the catalog provides. I emailed The Perfin Club and never received a response to my email. I might pay the price if I knew what I was purchasing.

Even with the reference book, some can be difficult to identify, but these are easy:
M12 State of Montana
R2.3 unknown user of Harrisburg PA (2 different)
C149 Central Hanover Bank NY
C164.7 Continental Insurance NY
F95 StLouis San Fran Railway StL
the C164.7 is rated c+ - value maybe a dollar, the others are very common

The reference book is highly recommended. It provided accurate scale pictures, years of known usage [so by association some idea of what stamps it was used on], accurate valuations [mostly], users known. If I can answer questions about the book - post them here.

The catalog is about 3 inches thick. There are 4 updates available to it. the catalog shows (to scale (i.e. you can lay your stamp on it and match holes if need be))images of the item as well as catalog number, years of usage, measurement data. name and location of known company or users, value, and what source the item has been id'd upon. As a non member you will pay a price usually $20 to $30 over the cost to members.
I would suggest joining the group, and get the items (more than that catalog, they also sell other country items) cheaper. They also have a sales circuit department.

I am not telling you what to do, just giving you the information you asked for. Hopefully the moderators won't delete this post (they have been known to).

Thanks chasa & PoStat4evR, that's more info than I have been able to get. With that in mind, I think its got value for me and I will also join since its a wash and I would then have access to other material. I do appreciate the information. I was clueless to its size and degree of information it would provide.

Thanks again!
Don

TheStampNut: The Perfins CLub also maintains a LARGE lending library where catalogs and lists are available to loan to members for a month each time. Another plus.
