Hi guys..Stupid question.. have here (I think) two Scott #499...But look at the printing..one is sharp and the other is blotchy..Did they use 2 different kinds of paper for this stamp..??

Peter...I have enough trouble with Canadian stamps, American stamps, I am lost..Ok, I will go work on it...

It is most likely that the blotchy issue was printed by offset lithography printing such as 526, 527, 528, 528A, 528B rather than 499, 500 which was a sharper flat plate intaglio engraving printing. Have fun sorting the different types for these stamps.

Bottom stamp is probably either type IV or V Offset printing, Scott #532 or #533. Check the characteristics in either Scott's catalogue or www.1847usa.com to determine which it is since we can't see the entire stamp here.

Gator... while you're right there's not enough stamp to view to really
tell at this juncture, but, by eye, even with as much as there is, I
have my doubts it's offset...

There are (many) known inking variations of the 499...
