Just received this one today. Thought I'd put it up for you to see. Will be sending it for a cert.

I believe this might cert. as a #544. Its Rotary, perf. 11x11, 11-72 x 11-72 (Kiusalas scale) same as a #498, with the design measuring 19mm x 22.5mm, same as #543, as measured by my Sonic Imaging Labs gauge. There is an article on #544 in The United States Specialist, the USSS Journal, Vol. 57, No. 10, 1986, by Larry S. Weiss. You can access it on their web site, www.usstamps.org (not sure if you need to be a member to access). In the article, there is a #544 on post card pictured with the same cancel as this one, but cancelled two days later. Same slogan cancel just a different clerk/window. Found this on E-Bay shortly after reading that article and thought it could be.....we'll see.

Please post an image that is just the stamp and at least 600 dpi. I hope that you found a #544, but I am skeptical.

I'd like to see a nice, large clear upright image
with a 498 placed to its side...

Cropped your scan, straightened them, split them,
then stitched into overlap...

Based upon the overlap, I'm leaning strongly towards 544...

Perhaps Bill Weiss will chime in with a visual... and if
it's on the positive side, I'm sure he'd be happy to cert
it for you on a send-in...

Randall, he'll most likely get it in the next few weeks or so.
Thanks!

I agree with disi, it appears to be a #544. Disi's image shows that it probably is tall enough. The "800dpi" image is a bit small, but it does show that your suspect has the correct frame aspect ratio. Great find Dave! To add insult to the seller's injury, how much did you pay for it?

Guys, trust me that when our friend "Al E. Gator" thinks he has a #544, it's going to be good.....he's pretty good with this stuff.... :)

Congrats, Dave........Hopefully you'll be able to show me that cert (and I hope I get to show you the 4 I hope are on the way, too!).....Ray

Congratulations on your find. Is the postmarked date on the postcard one of the earliest for this stamp issue?
