The current EDU for #544 is 12/17/22, so this card is dated three days later--would have been nice if it were dated earlier!. |

Short answer is I don't think so, as regards to when the last specific type first went to press and on sale through the USPO. Long answer is: That's just the EDU for #544. Its not known just when they were first printed, but its possibly sometime in 1921. There is a reference in the literature of Armstrong reporting a 3/19/21 cover from San Francisco. Scott Specialized recognizes the 12/17/22 date. Those in the PF data base date from 1922-1924. I think there were printings of the third bureau into late 1922-early 1923 until the fourth bureau began printing. There are plenty of covers available to purchase with dates into 1924-1925. Not sure if they over-lapped in printings. Clark Frazier or Bill Weiss could add more to that--they have a lot more knowledge about this than I. The last stated, first "for sale" date I can reference is for #543 at 5/26/21. That's supposedly the first date it was advertised for sale by a dealer--doesn't necessarily indicate when it was first printed, but it was probably in May 1921. Again there a lot of folks who can better answer this for you, but this is what I know as of now. |

I've not chimed in on this discussion because this perforation rarity is well above my area of expertise. Nevertheless, I did come across this Siegel auction from 2010 where the (then) earliest known example of a "full cover" (not a postcard) was offered for sale: http://www.siegelauctions.com/dynam...%209,%202010 |

I'd imagine you're much more likely to find one on a postcard than a cover as shown on Siegel's site. 1˘ was postcard rate and up to 1 oz. was 2˘ so a 1˘ cover I'd imagine is quite scarce. Was it due to the short distance or was it considered postcard due to size ? |

And let me just add that on a stamp of this rarity I always consult with at least two other experts, which is what I did - even though it's pretty clear that it is a 544 once you have it live in front of you.
Comgratulations Mr Gator! |

Quote: Based upon the overlap, I'm leaning strongly towards 544... Hello, What were you looking for in the overlap that indicated it might be a 544? |
