Can anyone give me the Springer catalog number for this Tax stamp? One Ounce Tobacco, Series 112, Act of Feb 26, 1926. Overprinted The A.T. Co., Factory No. 27, Dist of KY, June 1943.
Quite interesting actually that this has an American Indian on it instead of that same fellow "Dewitt Clinton" normally seen. I would also be curious to learn a little more on it. Sorry I can't help much here otherwise.
The ones at the top here I have do show an Indian profile.-
The majority that I have ever seen (and that's really not a whole lot) look like these. I have a lot of these. They're neat in there own way though.-
I have a handful of these as well. Including an Indian (Native American) exactly like yours IndianGoldenEagle, right down the the overprint - though an earlier year and series number.
What I find interesting is the first S in SERIES below the portrait looks like it's reversed. Though I know it's only the quality of the printing, it's still a curiosity.
Each type of tobacco product has it's own designs. DeWitt Clinton is only on cigarette stamps plus a couple of years on one other product back in the 19th century. The indian is on tobacco stamps plus a few years on chewing tobacco; the strips show Adams. Twentieth cenury snuff stamps show a tobacco plant.
