Hi guys..I could not even find this stamp in Scott catalogue anywhere...(maybe J71 or J81)This letter was folded into 3 like a letter is folded to put into an envelope to be mailed..Can anyone help with information..? Thanks Robert
Wert - My first thought is payment for postage due on a single, or several, mail items not related to the paper on which the stamps were affixed by a clerk. If a recipient, or more likely a commercial mailer, owed postage to the PO, this was a receipt. Similar things are not uncommon. In recent years, after postage due stamps were no longer in print or in use, even current postage was affixed to a form, or plain paper, cancelled and handed back to the mailer who owed postage as his receipt. I have had full sheets of high-denomination postage due stamps affixed to a card. They make a stunning appearance. Would venture though that none of above would be called 'scarce.' Bill
