The stamps has not been hinged that I see and as far as the printing goes; I have not a clue. I doubt that the stamps were placed back to back with the gum touching. I posted a pic of the back of the stamp prior and see no hinges or remnants. I first stated that I thought it was gum disturbance as I thought that's what it was being a Newby, but was asked if it was thinned which I replied it was thinned, but I thought that was what was being asked. Thinning/missing gum

I don't see any color of the stamp from the back looking at 10x glass but do see the gum thin/missing on the 395 stamp.
The other stamp of the pair doesn't look as the gum is thinned/ missing as much. The only thing I can think of is maybe at one time during its 113 year life it was lightly stuck to a stock book. I don't know.

The stamps haven't seen daylight but once since 1969 when I was 10 years old and that was moving them from the stock books to albums in 2004 and I'm still moving stamps to albums. I do know this though, the wife HATES the stamps as it takes up all my extra time. If it was up to her she would just as soon to get rid of them some how or throw them out.

On ebay looking at the first pair; its listed as F-VF Used. If that pair is F-VF with clean pfc; then I would say mine would be XF-Sup now that is just looking at that pair as the centering goes

The 2nd pair listed is MH, so I ask is MH better than having gum thinned/ missing or is thinned/missing gum the same as being Hinged. Also, if I may ask how is it mint when it has been Hinged.

Thanks again for all the replies.
