Looks thinned to me. I'd be surprised if it dipped clean (especially the stamp with the penciled "395").

Thanks srailkb you are correct. Dipped and couldn't see it, but when I brought it out of the fluid it showed up. So, it is a waste of time and money to have it certed?

I can image that many collectors would be interested in paying good money to obtain such a desirable item at any discount. The front is still nicely centered and presents beautifully. The flaws make it non-"investor" grade and lower the value, but don't make it anywhere near worthless.

P.S. It's nifty to see the guideline in the ink offset on the back.

It catalogs $475. and probably has small thins on both stamps. Without an expert cert. you might get $50/75. for it on ebay. With a cert.I think $100/150. But a value estimate from Ken Srail would be more accurate than from me.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions about thins...
there's a HUGE PARANOIA about thins in philately,
and, rightly so...

However, extensive W/F collectors like myself,
(not an expert and don't claim to be), as well
as the experts commenting in this string having
seens thousands upon thousands of W/F's, know
very well - what we're viewing on the pair's
reverse is likely no more than spotty GD's...

Bill's numbers are conservative retail values, but maybe a tad optimistic for an ebay realization (especially for a "newbie" seller without a lot of feedback or an established reputation.) Whether it's worth spending $40-$45 (cert cost + shipping both ways) to get (maybe, on a good day) an extra $50-$75 on the realization is your call.

Huh? (Expertizer) Bill W. thought it was thinned based on the scan (and yes, he's seen thousands,) and when the OP dipped it again, he confirmed the stamps are indeed thinned. I'm not sure why you'd think otherwise.

Thanks again everyone. The feed back and honesty is greatly appreciated. You never know what you have unless you ask and to that I am thankful.

There's BIG difference between gum-thin and stamp thin...
I still doubt the stamp has ANY thins... all I see is
spotty gum loss... I've seen this same 'spotty' phenomena
on *many* W/F's...

Certainly it will show clearly in fluid... that's a given...

Thanks again people. Yes, there is only gum that is thinned. The back shows no sign of being hinged.
I still think I'm going to send it in to have it looked at and go from there.
I may end up just calling someone like Dr. Bob or Mystic to come look at all of the stamps and get rid of them all. Even the back of the book stamps

Is the gum thin due to hinging or how it was applied by the printer after printing?
