Here are a few covers I picked up at the St Louis Expo a week ago. They are all from towns along the now defunct Historic Route 66.

The 1st one is from Collinsfille, IL for their annual catsup festival in homage to the World's Largest Catsup Bottle. It is a water tower at the old Brooks factory that is in the shape of a catsup bottle.

The 2nd & 3rd ones are from Catoosa, OK featuring the Blue Whale, which is a water slide at a pond and the other is for Halloween.

The 4th one is from Hamel, IL which was celebrating their 50 year anniversary and connection to route 66, it features the town's seal and a classic car cruising down the road.

I am always looking for postmarks, cacheted covers to add to my collection.

The Blue Whale is a very popular roadside attraction for 66'ers looking for a photo opportunity. There was also a reptile ranch next to it shaped like an ARK.

Glad you found some treasures at the show. I LOVE pumpkins, so the Halloween cancel caught my eye right away! The classic car is toooo cool. Maybe Tom and I will be able to meet up with you next year.

sara,
I'm glad you liked the cancels. I too was disappointed we did not meet at the show. If you like Halloween & pumpkins that could be a great topical collection for you. I myself had started a list of halloween related stamps a couple years ago. I love Halloween and have gotten a few pictorial postmarks over the last 2.5 years with a cachet of my son.

Dude:

I like the last postmark with the old car. The postcards from Bobgggg are classic Americana of the 1950's... stunning.

Send me a list of the cities in Texas that were on Route 66. I'll see if I have any for you.

David

Bob,
I am dancing in my chair!Thank you so much! Those postcards are Awesome! They look like Curteich cards, very popular especially for their large letter "Greetings From" cards.

Mike, I know the list is for precancels that you added to for me.

David here is a list of Texas towns:
Adrian, Alanreed, Amarillo, Bushland, Glenrio, Groom, McLean, Shamrock, Vega, Wildorado, Gruhlkey, Boise, Washburn, Conway, Jericho, Rockledge, Lela, Boydston, Lark, Landergin. Keep in mind that some of these towns no longer exist or are ghost towns. I am not sure how many actually had a post office either. Good Luck!

Dude:

Thanks for the list.

I have postmarks from Adrian and Amarillo. Amararillo is Spanish for Yellow. Decribing someone in Texas ass "yellow" will likely cause you to incur a beating.

Adrian Texas is the geographic centre of U.S. Route 66.

I recently sent away to Adrian, TX for a comemorative postmark honouring Their centennial (1908-2008). They also complied with my request ot apply other Adrian postmarks they had, and they placed a round dater and a 4-bar Killer on the air postal card as well.

As I root through U.S. airmail stamps and covers, I'll watch for postmarks from those Texas towns, for you.

David

Stamperdude, Have you caught the reality/race show along Route 66.
A family from Illinois, the Cootes, have dominated most of the way.
Alot of stops at a few of those special locations along the route.

Mike,
Yes I have watched most episodes. I am actually disappointed that they are traveling via the Interstate and most times are not even on Route 66 or in a town or place along Route 66. For example: Las Vegas, The Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam just from the most recent episode. I think that the reason I watch it is the DiSilvio family. I know the ratings have been very low, however it could inspire someone to travel the Mother Road and learn a lot more.
