Lately I been going over some of my early stuff and making positive the Scott numbers were correct So, If ray.mac Stephenson, Deats and reading McClung's literature has taught me anything then to the best of my ability this should be an Scott #88 with an E Grill. What do you think?
I don't know if you id is correct or not, but that is very nicely centered, and great condition as well. It is amazing to me that after 148 years of this stamp being traded around, that the chads ( isn't that what Flordia called the punched out bits of paper ) are still with the stamp! Oh, wait, those in Flordia were hanging chads.
Everything about this stamp is nice to the eye. I agree with the E-grill ID. You have a nice solid item here, and those chads testify to original perfs, or so I believe. Good show, and thanks for sharing it.
I regularly remove those chads. Many folks (me including) find them visually unappealing and detract from the appearance of the stamp. Most can be painlessly removed with tongs, as long as they aren't attached to a perf tip too much, as damage could result by pulling it off. Caution advised.
