The following just appeared under the thread... https://www.stampcommunity.org/topi...41811#360870"All my fav links are dying... jenallen808 New Member United States 1 Posts Hello out there. My name is Jenifer and my father, Bob, is/was the owner of 1847usa.com -- I see him every week but he's never mentioned that he wasn't working on the site anymore. I just remember him working every day on keeping it up to date and thinking "Boy is he nuts." ...because he wasn't ever getting paid for this and he's not exactly living the life of luxury. He'd constantly talk our ears off about stamps, and sorry, we aren't philatelists, so we weren't ever very interested. I suppose that's why he didn't mention this to me. I was about to show someone the site, but just now, found it gone. I found this thread and will be showing it to my father later and asking him about it to see what we can do to get it back up. If anyone out there knows how he can generate some income from it, that may help. He has been having a lot of medical problems, but I don't think that would keep him from this hobby. It probably was just the financial aspect of it. Thanks for your support :) I didn't realize how useful his website was.

Wow! OK, so what can we do?
Maybe he just needs some advice from someone experienced in generating income from web sites. |

I just posted within the thread to Jennifer...
(assuming) it's all to do with what she mentions, then, hopefully, Amos is not part of the equation, and some of us can coordinate getting the site back up (for starters)... but, with regards to generating revenue, that might be something we can all discuss together... I would suggest at the most fundamental level a "contribute" by Paypal or credit card, which Bob may or may not have had on the site... I don't recall...
With regards to coordination and maintenance, Bill and Don (I believe) have mentioned they would take an active role, if necessary... |

Sounds like a reason to hope. But I wouldn't make too many plans until we hear from Bob how he wants us to share the load (or not). Maybe he wants to hand off the baton altogether. Or whatever. |

If there is anything I can do/contribute to keeping that site alive or at least keep the information available, count me in! Post or PM me. The loss of 1847usa leaves a big hole in the online philatelic community. Dan |

Never been on the site, but I've read about it here. Can't afford to loose the good sites - to few of them. I'm not sure what I can do - I play with building computers sometimes still, maybe contribute, whatever. Be glad to help if I can.

I don't belong to any but this one. But if there is any camaraderie amongst them, I wonder if we could help create a mass contribution center between all of us. And if Bob just wanted to move on, surely there are many who could keep it up. Or am I dreaming? -IBFS |

I think we have the most up-to-date discussion on this site.
I have noticed there was brief mention of the loss of the 1847usa.com website on at least two or three other stamp forums that I know of, but with very limited information other than what has already been shared here.

Quote: I am pleased to inform everyone that I finally heard from Bob Allen today, for which I think we can thank Jenifer for passing onto Bob the fact that the site is being discussed on the SCF. I think that going forward there will now be talks between Bob and the prospective party who may take over the site. I will update this thread as I am able, but Bob's message to me was encouraging.........
I am also very pleased that there are folks here willing to help if necessary, to keep the site going. That is also very encouraging in the event the talks don't bear fruit.
NOTE - The above response was also posted in the other SCF thread related to this website. I don't want any interested reader to miss out...... |

Now that we have a much better understanding of the situation, is there an established member who will coordinate with me in the setting up a GoFundMe so that the community can get the funding set up to help Bob get 1847usa back up? Since I would not be able to post the necessary links as a new member, I cannot do this easily by myself. Like many of us, I used this site A LOT over the past 18 months when my stamp collecting was the only thing keeping me sane. Now I get the opportunity to not only help get it back up but also help out the man behind it! I have set aside $500 of the money I was planning to spend at the local stamp show this Saturday, which will get this off to a good start. |

While your generosity is wonderful, I hope I am clear enough that there isn't anything we at SCF can do to move this situation along. Please be patient. I will update this thread as I am able, if and when there are reportable developements. Thank you! |

kollectorkurt, I think that's a wonderful and thoughtful idea.
I wish the old or new owner the best of luck getting it up and running. |

Bill, you are correct that we need to allow Bob and his family to address their situation at their own pace and in their best interests. I also believe that we should let them know how important and invaluable Bob's contributions through 1847usa have been. There certainly seem to be dozens of collectors here who are willing to provide assistance with finances, web hosting and redesign, website income generation... all without conditions. Please make sure that they know that help is here for them, if/when they want it. |
