Hello. My name is Susan. Five years ago I
inherited my fathers beloved mint stamp collection. Well, it's almost mint except for one stamp.... "Cattle in the Storm". He collected this collection till 1990's. The reason why I joined this site is for more information of this collection. Granted I remember watching my father collect this collection from every single stamp as I grew up. Actually it's quite funny how he started collecting. It all started at Christmas in 1982, he bought my older sister a stamp book with a bucket of used stamps. My older sister wasn't interested and my dad started sorting through it and using those stupid folding green tabs where you would lick and stick the stamp on one side and stick it to the page. My father became hooked.
He took it seriously and started collecting mint stamps and started using what was called "Showgards". In November of 1986 my grandfather died and my father used his inheritance to buy a cancelled stamp called "Cattle in the Storm" stamp.
I joined this site because I want to learn more about stamp collecting. Back in 1991 my father had to sell a sheet of stamps called "The Battle of Whiteplanes". So hopefully someday I can replace it. It really bothered him to sell it because the holes kind of got zigzaged near the top. But hey, he had to make a mortgage payment.
So I just wanted to poke around this site and look around.
I forgot to add my father's collection starts back I think in the 1800's. I do know it was red and a picture of George Washington and the edges were straight, no holes.
I had to edit because I screwed up the dates when my father stopped collecting....it was in the 90's when they started making stamps like stickers. LOL, Dad thought what was the point at that time.
