For those of you who do not know... I work, part time, a few hours each week, at the local stamp dealer, Ian Kimmerly Stamps. There is another company at his location, Sparks-Auctions. I work as a lot describer. I make a few dollars, and feed my habit (stamp collecting!)

A lot describer takes collections and stamps, organises them, writes them up, and puts them in formats that will sell.

Anyhoot, for the last few weeks I have been organising a worldwide collection (120+ binders) for auction. The collection was put together in the late 1960's, early 1970's. It's housed in a number of cheap, Zellers/Miracle Mart/Steadman's binders. The collector put a bunch of clippings from magazines to show the location of countries, etc., taped in.

Most of the stamps are 20¢ minumum cat value stamps, and most of the stamps of any real value (like the 10¢ U.S. Columbian) often are badly damaged and barely qualify for "filler" status.

I see LOTS of these sort of collections.

As I was looking through the U.S. binder... rooting through the damaged stamps, when at the turn of a page, a mint-hinged 65¢ Zepplin! Wow!

Certainly made my day!

David

No, Phil. It's a mint stamp... I only collect used.

In that one case, given the right price, I'd be real tempted to make an exception.

Sooooo David, Do you get an actual paycheck or an envelope full of stamps? I'd end up with the envelope! Sounds like great fun. How long have you been doing it?

Boy those surprizes sure can be fun.

Sounds like a great part time job. That's what my job at the nursery was suppose to be. Ha! During peak season I work 80 hrs plus a week. Even during dead season I work 40 hrs.

Oh well maybe when I'm 60.

Sara:

I get an actual paycheque. I then have the option to deposit it into the bank, or sign the back and receive the value, plus twenty percent in store coupons. The store coupons are called "Kimmerly Dollars".

I usually take the Kimmerly Dollars.

Nuggethill:

Thank-you.

You can check out www.sparks-auctions.com for information on the bidding, etc. The auction is live, on the internet.

I'm not sure whan the next auction will be. They are usually about every three or four months. We auction everything in single stamps and in lots, boxlots, and collections.

As a note, that 65¢ Zepplin will be auctioned as part of a larger United States collection. As there is little demand for United States stamps, here, that is the best way for us to auction it off.

Hope this helps.

David

A mint Zeppelin. I'd be thrilled to find a used one!! One of the best finds I've made was once when I was sorting through a bunch of used stamps on paper that I had purchased and came across a used Scott 311. It was a nice addition to my collection.
