There were quite a few U.S. Stamps manufactured imperoforate specifically for the private vending machime companies in the first two decades of the 1900's. Information on them can be found under Vending and affixing machine perforations, following Computer Vended Postage in Scott Catalogues
The short answer is "it's a private coil"

This is a private perf coil stamp made from imperf stamps - specifically the "Schermack Type III".
