Hello. I need some help with identifying the color variations of these. They seem very tricky. In hand, I would take this as red brown and when taking pics it is difficult catching the right lighting but I think they turned out right. Too bad there are a couple missing perfs. Perfs measure 12. Thanks for any help as always!

Thank you. Everything I read on these say they are very difficult to determine the many shades.

As others have said, you have what appears to be a #65. It has too much red based on your images to be any of the other possibilities. Without a moderate amount of effort to create color calibrated scans, it is impossible for us to know with certainty.

All of the 1861 3c series have multiple shades and are nearly impossible to identify without reference stamps to compare yours to. I'm working on a way to do so without much effort nor investment, but it is still in the early development stages. For now, note your stamp as being a #65 and with time you will find that this design was printed in a wide range of shades.

Thank you for that information historical. I know what you mean. It doesn't look very red in hand. I will take the expert advise here though.
