Much better! In case you didn't know, the maximum image file size has been increased from 100kB to 200kB.

Hey...wait a minute...did you get a new scanner just so you can show off your #500 again?

Hi, Ryan... thank you kindly for the mention...

My original that I uploaded from my old (and tired) 18 year old 300dpi
scanner was blinding and over-contrasted... believe me when I tell you
it took alot of work to make it show as the 500 it is and not an offset

Sure... I love showing it off... who wouldn't, it's a nice copy, but
I also had to see for myself what my images would look like with the
new 600... and, why not my beloved 500 ? (big smile)

Randall

Experiment with scanning on a black background. You'll get more accurate color and more detail that way (less light reflection).

Hi, Rev... yeah... my old scanner had a black inside cover,
this one's white... I'll need to go to the office supply
and pick up some black paper for future scans... thanks...

You must not have Amazon Prime. Or a nearby Walmart.

We buy office supplies from Walmart sometimes, but usually from
Quill... they deliver and give Net 30 terms... it's probably time
to order some laser toners, so we can addon paper...

Suggestion: Rather than just black paper, get black plastic or use the back of a Leuchturm black stock card. Black construction paper has a texture that often comes out in the scans, and is frequently more of a grey than pure black, whereas black plastic tends to be a more true black and textureless (or at least not enough texture to appear in scans unless you are scanning at 2000dpi).

I use a Leuchturm stock card that is taped to a block of wood. I place the stamp face down on the glass and leave the lid open, and place the block of wood on top of the stamp. This gives the image a pure black background and the weight of the wood block does a great job of pressing the stamp down, eliminating any curl.

I don't like using the scanner lid, as in many cases they are padded and don't do as good a job of applying pressure as the block.

Are you sure that the scanner hardware is limited to 600 DPI or are you a victim of bad scanner software. I would expect even a low priced scanner to have hardware resolution of at least 1200 DPI to 2400 DPI if it has color slide scanning capabilities.

In some cases 1200 DPI is needed to make critical measurements or overlay comparisons accurate to within 0.001 inch (0.025 mm for the politically correct).

I agree with Clark, you could check the manual for the technical specifications. They usually state an optical and software maximum resolution. Anything higher than the optical resolution will be software interpolation which you will generally want to avoid. I also agree with revenuecollector but want to add that you should avoid reflective/shiny surfaces for your black background.

What type of scanner is that?
Sorry but I think that by today's standard, even at 600 dpi that is not that good.
I'm fairly sure though with a few tweaks it could be better.

This scan was done with an old model I picked up 2nd hand for 50p
