Hi guys..Found this information and got me thinking is this how they did proof runs in the 1800's on Indian paper before finally running a stamp on the presses..? It is an American company..Any thoughts..? Robert
This was a galley proof press designed to print proofs for proof-reading of hand set type or linotype for magazine or book publishing. I doubt that it could be used for proofing stamps.
After all of the positions on the sheet were transferred from the die to the transfer roll to the plate, the first impressions were taken by printing a sheet or two on india paper.
