I will put the stamp in my album in the 552 slot.

Thanks to everyone for the help, it was an education.

The back scan of the stamp is not the reverse of the franklin, I put it to compare but anyway you are pretty sharp.

I am putting my topic to bed.

Regards,

Mike L.

Mike, asking questions is always welcomed. There is always more information for every one of us to learn.

rohumpy, I have often wondered about that. The 1922 horizontal/sidewise coils are larger than the previous rotary issues in both directions, but disproportionately as you point out. I can imagine a few scenarios of how different paper and/or manufacturing processes could account for it. Now I know what I'm going to read about for the day.

One last thing. The stamp on the right of your scan is a rotary printed stamp. I copied and shifted your #552 next to it:

The horizontal perfs match but the vertical perfs don't. That combined with the design showing through the back means that it is a 1922 series that is perf 11 x 10.5. This means that it has to be a "Tall" rotary printing. If you place it next to your #552 you can see the design size difference. You can now use it as a reference to help identify "Tall" rotary stamps.
