The deciding issue here is whether or not leaving your stamps out to dry in the open is a negligent act..If so, the liability of the city would dissipate.

Hard to imagine leaving them outside to dry --wouldn't you be afraid they'd blow away?

Could well be a scam --the expert they quoted certainly makes it all sound somewhat dubious.

Not enough information to really make a determination. I can think of dozens of questions on point. Contributory negligence here seems to be very great on his part, though.

If my collection was worth millions and soaked I would have purchased a dehumidifier vs. airdrying outside ,blown away, thrown away,or even taken away,he sure made a poor choice when he put them outside.

I wouldn't put my 20 cent stamps outside to dry, let alone anything that was valuable.

A very unlikely story. If I had 800 Penny Blacks and they got wet somehow, the last thing I would do was to leave them outside to dry...

If I saw them I would have saved the trash man the trouble...as we say at the High School...."if I sweep it..i keep it ". by the way times must be bad..we are not finding as many expensive pens,25 cent pieces and sweaters and jackets left lying on the floor as we used to ! I guess the parents are not replacing the kiddies items as often as they used to !!

I don't think so.....but if he did leave his valuable stamps outside to dry he deserves to have them thrown away. How stupid can you be?

A follow-up to my original post; maybe I judged too quickly:

Scroll down a bit to the March 17 entry title, "Don't Believe Everything You Read in The Papers"

[Thanks Chicken; I have corrected the link.]
