I have a friend who is tight on cash and wants to sell her stamp panes and FDC's to me. All I can find in Scotts Specialty I P#Block or 4 to 6! Nothing about "panes". I'm stumped.
Where can I find pricing on 1940's + panes with selege and gutters and some plate numbers and some not.
Thanks in advance for your help and patience--still learning.
I see a little confusion here... :) The original poster is talking about sheets of stamps from the 40s up, which sell for a percentage of face value. The first answer is thinking that the OP is talking about booklet panes. The terminology is confusing since the full sheets can also be called panes...
To the OP, discount postage, such as full sheets of unused stamps from the middle 30s to the present day, sells at a percentage of face value. The percentage tends to line up with how easy they are to use as postage. It can range from 50% to about 80%, with a few select designs selling for higher (typically there needs to be a non-stamp collector market for the price to raise). Current;y the best face values to get are the $0.25 values, since two of them just overpays the first class rate.
Sorry to be confusing. A. What I have are 1/4th of an entire sheet: 200@ 4 x 50. I have 50 ?panes? some with sheet number in the corners and some not. Example: #936 A383 "Coast Guard Landing Craft and Supply." Most are 1930'2-early 1950's. Virtually all are 3c.
B. Have blocks too. Some quote "block of 4", I've got six or more total, and "block of 6", I've got a block of 4 and pairs! All screwed up.
C. When I think of "booklet panes" I think that means one sheet out of the little packet of 24: 4 booklet panes with 6 stamps each...
Thanks much billsey and Kevin504.
As an Episcopal priest (looking for a job) we have language customary to us called "Episcopaleeze" and you are helping me (with much gratitude) learning "stampeeze."
Thank you WT1. I just sent APMEX an imperf unused stamp that is your icon/"signature". Can't wait to get it back and find out what it really is--I sent it as "Essay with no grill." That's about all I know for now. Thanks again. You've been awesome. I appreciate you knowledge and kindness. Bob+
