When I was a kid, Ray was my mailman (it was before we started saying 'carrier'). I would meet him at the box and he'd hand me the mail. Ray's retired now, but he was always so nice to me. This stamp reminds me of him...

We didn't have mail delivered to our home growing up, we went to the po box. However, the postmaster Byron Crawley and his small staff were always pleasant with smiling faces to help a young collector like me. I wish I still had the promo posters for new issues he had given me, I'm not sure when they disappeared. |

When I was a kid my mailman used to whoop by butt every week or so. Of course, he was my father and I deserved it! |

P.S. I've always like that era of U.S. stamps. they were simple but elegant. |

As a child Living on the outskirts of Birmingham ,England, I remember our Postman coming to the house on his bicycle, delivering mail and picking up letters to be mailed. sometimes having a cuppa tea. David (DJD)

Ahh, England--cup of tea--I haven't been there in over 10 years, but I remember everything stopping for tea time. And those Scones and clotted cream were to die for--Yummm! (I stayed in London near Regent's College and Exeter, England studying Hospice Care--they do it right in England!

Our poor "mailman" hates our neighborhood. Her car's back tire was flattened by a rottweiler who hates it, just by running up to it and chomping down on it! It made a loud pop when it busted. One bite. Normally very nice dog, he just hates the mail lady's car! One day she was in a different car and he was as nice as can be, didn't even chase her.
Of course the owner paid for a new one. We all try to be extra nice to make it up to her. |

Stefani: That's kind of funny in a way--from the dog's perspective. He's probably been chasing cars his whole life. Imagine his surprise when he finally caught one and it exploded in his mouth |

I have found every mail carrier to be very friendly and helpful, many times giving extra care and service. |

"He's probably been chasing cars his whole life....." Of course, that's why dogs have flat snouts...from chasing parked cars! I recall that being a Henny Youngman joke once upon a time. Anyway, our current mail lady has shown great resilience....during a recent snow and ice storm she pulled up in a Jeep with the 4 wheel drive inoperative, and one of the rear wheel's chains broke running the route....she wasn't in the best of moods. I don't think I've seen her since then! |

I have had mail recently delivered by 2 different snowmobiles and a fourwheeler! We got a lot of snow but the mail still went! Of course we still had to shovel a path to the box or he would drive on by! lol Don't much blame him either! Poor guy. |

Usually, the mail is delivered into the mailbox on the street in front of the house. Recently, The driver had to deliver to the back of the house. It was a shipment of 100 lbs of soft lead. He wasn't unhappy, he just wanted to know what was in the box! I reload my own shells and make my own bullets for hunting and target practice. Its another hobby I started years ago and only need to heat up the pot every couple of years.
