Flat plate booklet panes are printed on paper having different grain direction than the sheet stamps so it shrinks differently. They are wider and shorter than the sheet stamp.

dittrich,

595 is not a booklet stamp; but I'm not sure your stamp pair is a booklet stamp. There is a line on the bottom. What does that indicate?

When measurements matter you must be careful.

The measurements you gave show a design that is wider than it is tall. Only measure the design, not the whole stamp.

What are the correct measurements for the design on your stamps?

595 is made from "rotary coil waste" for #599. It has no booklet form.

"paper shrinkage" causes one dimension of a flat plate design to be SMALLER than normal, the other to be the same or very slightly larger (0,25mm). Rotary printing causes at least one dimension to be GREATER than its flat plate counterpart, but neither dimension is smaller than flat plate.

Jack is pointing to the guideline at the bottom of your pair. But #554 as a booklet was produced from 360 subject plates and that guideline could have been visible on booklet panes from J, K, and L positions.

The side cutting of the pane your stamps are from was not square with the edges of the design, but the outside edges appear to be parallel to each other.

I think you have the bottom pair from a 554c pane of 6 position J type.

dittrich.

It looks like a 554c to me. I am just confused about the line at the bottom. It almost looks like it was perforated at one time, but then was subsequently trimmed. Does anybody else have a idea?

essayk,

Yes. 554c bottom pane. It was the J, K, L line positions that were confusing me. I see it now. Thank you.

The greatest value in this pair is in the introduction to booklet items you just got from this discussion. But it is the sort of thing you might find in a box of kiloware. Valuable learning tool; very little cost.
