Hi all is this USA stamp 11 worth more with the margin tab at the bottom? Most of the ones I have seen don't have the tab. I saw one similar on ebay at $250 but I want to get an idea what the value is of this stamp. Is it worth more than a standard stamp #11 because of the bottom tab? Is it scarce because of the tab? Please let me know some comments on this stamp and how much its value is, I don't want to start it to cheap in auction.

Not a "tab." That is just the normal bottom margin. The stamp is cut into the design on left and right. In my book that overrides any premium due to the large bottom margin. Someone who can plate it might tell a better story, but this does not appear to be a premium item.

Generally, sheet margin stamps sell for more but as essayk points out, it is cut into in two locations. The stamp also has some staining and a missing corner. Starting the cover at $0.99 will be starting the cover very close to its full value. I wouldn't even bid on it at that price. Maybe the contents will add value????

Contents: commercial contents about mundane topics like banking are common - dental content quite unusual. If this were mine, I would tout the unusual and historic nature of the contents and let the stamp go along for the ride. I would expect at least $25 for the contents alone from the dental collectors.

That phil. cancel dates prior to 1/1/54, when it changed from blue to black. Sinclair could probably narrow down the usage more by the color.

Dang! I need to learn to read! Document dates it.

Nice cover. I dare say, our late great friend ILS (Jeff) would have been all over that Jersey Shore cover! Was certainly his thing.

James, thank you for pointing out our loss of Jeff (SCF member: I Love Stamps). I worried about his absence but didn't know that he had passed.

I share with you the sentiment that he would have enjoyed this post. Rest in peace Jeff.

duncanvr, I wish you luck with your auction.
