if it is SC #498 on cover what would be the value? I see one online for $5900.00 and that wasn't on the cover like mine, what could I value mine at? What would it cost to get it certified? Thank You all for your time and comments I am very great full for your help. The website I looked at was http://stampsian.com/index.php/used...98-1917.html .

Uh...nothing on that site is legit. Their prices for those stamps are positively outrageous, and they make no mention of certificates for those stamps, which are definitely not the rarities they advertise them as... I would NOT use that site as a guide for what your stamps are worth. In fact, you may as well stay away from that site altogether, unless you want to simply browse their inconceivably high priced items...

Try searching "us stamp 498 used" on ebay, then click on "sold listings". The sold listings will give you an idea of what its market value is, and no doubt you'll find plenty of 498s on covers which will give you a pretty exact idea of what yours is worth. Hope this helps!

HOLY COW! That site is beyond ludicrous. I wonder if they really sell anything? If so, their client list would be golden for some folks.

I am new to stamp collecting and this forum. I have searched for info on these 2¢ Washington stamps. I have 3 to 4 distinctively different ones. Please help me identify them or direct me to some one who might know. I am trying to load a picture

Mector, you should probably ask your question in it's own thread since it doesn't have anything to do with the question asked in this thread. Perhaps an administrator can move it...

Nothing you show has much value, though you do have stamps from four different series, ranging from the 1890s to the 1920s. Note that the top left stamp (once the image is rotated upright) is from a different series than the other four in the top two rows. The ones without the triangles in the corner are the earliest issues, from the last set printed by private companies for many years. The one with triangles is from a few years later and was printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, as are all the rest. During this era the cost for mailing a normal letter in the US was 2 cents, so the 2 cent stamps are the most common. There are different varieties for several of the stamps shown, some actually worth good money, but that chances one of these will be one of those is very, very slim.
