So I was browsing Scott #500s on ebay, and came across this 528B being offered as a 500... Item number: 231600617400

I feel sorry for the buyer who thinks they've got a great deal.

This buyer was a bit unfortunate as well... a waste of $102! ebay item number: 351410732117

#500s seem to be misidentified all the time. For those of you still figuring out how to identify them, here is a legit #500 as a reference; ebay item number: 271887043270 Notice the distinct rose color, and how the lines in the toga rope are a consistent width, unlike 499s where they are thicker at the bottom and thinner on the top.

Hopefully more people will learn how to differentiate #500s from #499s and the Offset varieties. It just depresses me to see so many bids on misidentified stamps....

EDITED Sorry, I didn't know shortened urls were not allowed. Will not happen again. :)

he has a case to return the stamp as it is false advertising on the sellers part. Too many sellers who know nothing other than they think it's worth money

Thanks... CK should know better... in his case, I'd say
it was an honest mistake on his part, and I have absolutely
no doubt, he'd back it up for a cert and refund if requested...

Tom... obviously you don't know CK like many of us here, do...

The chances of him false advertising (anything) would be one in
100 million... on ebay since March of 2009 with over 56,000 feedback,
and *easily* one of the most reputable sellers on ebay...

The area right above George's eyes is a big giveaway on the offsets. The obvious lines of the flat and rotary plates come together and look like one solid color on the offsets.

I know most people here know the difference, but for anyone who doesn't, fill a vario page randomly with all 3 types. The offsets will jump right out at you.
