All right, I just got my 2013 Scott's Catalog in the mail and thought I would share some of what appear to be the more valuable stamps in this collection, based on the retail values listed in the catalog. I understand that retail value is probably twice (if not more) what I would likely be able to get for the stamps if I chose to sell them. I'm also a little suspicious whether some of the stamps are actually what they were listed as (e.g., are the "part perf" stamps really part perf, or have they been trimmed?). I'm hoping you guys can help me verify the authenticity of these and let me know some ballpark "real" values.

Thanks!

This is definitely a Hunting Permit Stamp #RW1. Scott's lists it with a value of either $800 or $150. I'm assuming the difference is condition? Not sure what condition this would be considered.

This purports to be a Revenue Stamp #R33b (part perforate). I was a little suspicious of the fact that the horizontal sides were imperforate instead of the vertical sides, but Scott's indicates that this stamp came both ways. Scott's lists this at $800.

This purports to be a Revenue Stamp #R34b (part perforate). Scott's lists this at $575.

This purports to be a Revenue Stamp #R37a (imperforate), but I'm a little suspicious of the fact that the bottom and left margins are gone. Scott's lists this at $1050.

This purports to be a Revenue Stamp #R66b (part perforate). Scott's lists this at $3000.

This purports to be a Revenue Stamp #R100c (perforate). Scott's lists this at $250.

This purports to be a Revenue Stamp #R121. Scott's lists this at $650.

This purports to be a Revenue Stamp #R129. Scott's lists this at $1000.

This purports to be a Revenue Stamp #R130. Scott's lists this at $1150.

This purports to be a Revenue Stamp #R1319. Scott's lists this at $1200.

Too bad that the perfs cut into the design on your duck stamp (RW1) ...

... each one of those little 'bites' has taken a U$D ~20 bite out of your stamp

http://www.shduck.com/ ... take a look at the auction prices realized & retail price lists.

Cheers,

The 10 cent imperf is a fake. The part perfs could go either way and must be looked at by someone knowledgeable. All the others would need to be looked at for condition, especially the bottom four stamps. On the duck stamp, what the back looks like is also very important.

I was wondering about this one, not only because of the strange margins but also because the cancellation seems a lot more modern compared to all the other stamps. When you say "fake", do you mean it's a perforate stamp that has been trimmed or that it's a complete counterfeit?

It's a trimmed perforated stamp. However, the cancel is contemporary to the stamp. Handstamp cancels were used all the time in the 1860's.

There are actually three prices listed in the catalogue

The price on the left column ($800) is unused with original, never-hinged (pristine and unblemished) gum on the back. Just below that price ($400) is unused with original, hinged (or blemished) gum on the back. The price on the right column ($150) is for a used stamp.

Your stamp appears unused. I cannot tell you the condition of the gum.

The centering on your stamp is, unfortunately, not good. The perforations on the left cut into the design. Retail on this stamp would be in the 10-20% of catalogue value. EBV ( ebay value) would likely be even less.

You can view sold listings for this stamp on ebay here -
