Over the past year, I've come across (4) stamps which based on visuals, were determined to be either faked perfs or faked grills. What does one do with these stamps? Are there those who collect these stamps? Is there a market for these items, and if so, how is a value determined?

Why not start a reference collection? While sale to "qualified" buyers is OK, releasing such items back into the general stamp market is likely to result to seeing the stamps surface on ebay without a proper description. It is also possible to donate the stamps the American Philatelic Society Expertizing for the reference collection. For covers, the United States Philatelic Classics Society has a "SCRAP" project for faked covers. Once donated, the covers will be documented and will be held in a repository to keep them out of the marketplace.

Thanks Clark,
I see your point. Perhaps the APS would be a better place for them to go.

Fake grills that end up in my collection for one reason or another, usually end up on a special page in a stockbook for my "black museum" of grill fakes. I use them for reference if I happen to run across other examples and what to compare. I might buy one intentionally but only if the price is what it would be for a damaged version of the stamp they are on as it is correctly identified.

Fake perfs may include reperfs, but I make a distinction between reperfs intended to enhance appearance and reperfs intended to alter the identity of the stamp. Reperfs intended to alter identity I do not pursue, but if I recognize one among my own material, I write the number of the stamp as it should be identified on the reverse. Stamps reperfed for appearance I will buy if the discount is big enough, but how much that is varies with the rarity of the material and the quality of the reperfing. Generally I do not take the time to mark a "benign" reperf, but if I did it would consist of writing arrows on the reverse pointing to the perfs. The message is, "pay attention to this."

Those are things I do to help out the next owner a bit without clubbing them over the head.

edit: I just read Clark's response and I would second his suggestions.

I second what essayk said and third what Clark said.

I had always intended to put something in the collection, giving information about fakes, for the next person to be in possession of our collection. If I ever do come across one, I would make a scan and point out the reasons why it was a fake, and then sending the actual fake to APS.
