I am thinking of joining the APS. I was wondering, though, if I should? I don't have any chapters anywhere near me, but isn't this forum a chapter?

I would like to receive their magazine, I know that comes with membership. I had planned on suscribing to a stamp magazine anyway, so I figure I should do it this way.

What other benefits are there?

Excess to their library, on-line store, Insurance for your collection, expertising stamps, educational opportunities, among other things.
I'm a member I've enjoyed and used many of these services over the years.
When I joined you needed to be vetted by another member. I don't know if that still true. Go to www.stamps.org that's APS site and look it over.

Good Collecting!
Mike

I don't think you have to have a sponsor anyore. I didn't when I joined a few years ago. It is also a bit of a prestige thing tied to being a member. I do enjoy the monthly magazine.

Stefani:

I'm APS Member 214797. I joined for the first time back in October, but I wish I had done it years ago. I really enjoy the monthly magazine. There are other services (mentioned above) that I haven't taken advantage of yet.

I signed up the the Circuit Books. I am at a point with my U.S. collection that I rarely add new stamps. I occasionally buy one or two from ebay or stampwants, but I always worry about paying too much.

So far I've received only one circuit book, but I'm optimistic. The stamps inside were more reasonably priced than similar items on the auction sites.

Anyway, as a relatively new member, I think APS is a good investment.

I'm APS member 204340. I've been a member for 5 years. As I am a Canadian, I cannot take advantage of the circuit books. I do enjoy the magazine, the other services from the APS, and the security it gives others when dealing with me.

I would say that APS membership is well worth the price.

Don't feel badly, Phil. It will be six years this August that we met in Poughkeepsie, when Andrew & I went to NYC.

There are a number of great reasons to join the APS listed above, but I believe there is one more important one.

Join to give something back to the future of the hobby, to the kids who will collect after we're gone, and to the infrastructure that will make it happen - the APS.

Laswabbie, you sure know how to win a person over! I am a firm believer of passing on precious things to our kids, (including the planet) and thats a major reason I love scrapbooking. I would have loved to known the history of my ancestors.

I'm going to do it! Laswabbie is right, someone (lots of someones) helped me,so I owe karma, anyway, lol!

Stef, you may want to mention on your application that you learned about the APS here at SCF

I did it! Phil, I put on the application SCF's APS # as my referral person. I done a search on here about the APS and I remembered coming across it somewhere. And I found the APS number on their site. I do have a question, though, on the thread here it says the membership # is C215263. But on the APS site, it says APS# 1572-215263
