yep...looks like a doubling of the frame line LR. SCOTT does list a double transfer for this # but just includes that it was from plate 14841 |

This is listed as a double transfer in the French book of Plate Varieties of U>S> Stamps. Lovely item, wish I had found it. |

I agree, this is a gorgeous double-transfer. It also seems to appear at UR, in the "GE" of postage, the frame and the scrollwork. It might simply be from over-ink, but... While I enjoy my "not quite local anymore" stamp club, I cannot get this sort of advise/information there. So, when the rain arrives this afternoon and saves me from my "Honey-Do" commitments, I plan on checking through my half-page of C6's. |

Quote: ...the French book of Plate Varieties of US Stamps revcollector - Would you please post the title and author. This sounds like something I would benefit from adding to my library, or at least borrowing from APRL. Better still, are there any similar books in English? |

Encyclopedia of Plate Varieties on U.S. Bureau Printed Stamps by Loran C. French. On Amazon it is up to $95 now that it is out of print and out of stock at the source. |

From Loran C French's "Encyclopedia of Plate Varieties on U.S. Bureau-Printed Postage Stamps" (written in English). (The "SH 8, 9, 17, WPG ... references where this variety has been written-up before.) |

I think this was one for the ages: "the French book of Plate Varieties of US Stamps". My first thought was also why would such a book appear in France?

The thought that someone might think it in the French language was dismissed by me as being really unlikely. I will reevaluate. :-) |

Thanks to you all for your input. The UL6 that you have shown seems like a close match but there appears to be discrepancies between the UL6 and this stamp. Maybe off same plate, but different location? |

It's the same plate position, the differences are those between the actual stamp and a drawing of the stamp, plus possibly some plate wear differences. |
