Hi,

am trying to identify these stamps for someone.
The 2c Washington with Shermack perfs looks odd.

The 1c Franklin with bogus looking perfs looks contrived.

Any ides or opinions?

thanks
Marios

softpro, Top left is #525. Top right, #409 or #482 with Schermack T-III Private Perforation (probably #409). #409 if watermarked, #482 if without watermark. Bottom left, #343 or #383 with Mail-O-Meter T-IV Private Perforation. #343 if double-line watermarked, #383 is single-line watermarked. Bottom right looks like its a #209.

The Schermack looks good to me, it's a Schermack type III. The one cent Franklin has Mailometer type IV perforations. The Schermack Company was renamed the Mailometer Company in 1909 when Joseph Schermack left the company. Perforating plants in New York, Chicago and Detroit continued to produce the Schermack type III stamps. A 4th plant in St. Louis produced the Mailometer perforations, initally type I, then converting to type IV.
