Byrd Antartic Expedition II 3 Cent Signed By Byrd

I don't know anything about stamps just got my Grandpas old book this is one on the stamps in it along with many others , looking for help.

I think I know what you have. President FDR was an avid stamp collector and was also acquainted with Adm Byrd,; first as Governor of NY, then as President. He personally approved most of the stamps (over 200) issued during his presidency. On this particular stamp, he found an error made by the stamp designer and made the correction himself! His change was incorporated into the final design which he then approved.
Adm Byrd needed money for his 1933 expedition. They came up with the idea that they would postmark the stamp First Day Issue in Antartica (Little America) and stamp collectors could purchase one for 53 cents - $.03 for the post office and $.50 for Byrd!
When the first Byrd stamps rolled off the press, there was Jim Farley (FDR's 1932 campaign manager and by now Postmaster General; and Adm Byrd. They promptly signed a few of the sheets. This, by the way, was one of the "Farley's Follies" issues but that is another story all by itself.
I would say your stamp had considerable value - Certainly more than the run-of-the-mill Byrd stamps. Enjoy!
