Hi Everybody,

I recently joined your site here so I thought that it would be a good idea to introduce myself. So here goes.

I am a Disabled Veteran with over 20yrs (1969-94) of service in both the Navy and Army Reserves. My military specialties was in Field (Combat) Medicine, Ward Medicine, and Pharmacy.

I my last position in the Navy was as the POIC of the Pharmacy(HM8482) at a Naval Branch Clinic, out in the Mojave Desert. I was also rated as a Field Medical Tech(HM8404) and as an Basic Hospitalman(HM0000).

In the Army Reserves I was a Pharmacy Specialist(91Q20) and a Basic Field Medic (91B10). My reserve unit was the 313th M.A.S.H. formerly the 313th Combat Support Hospital. With the 313th I was the Pharmacy NCOIC. My only Army active duty was with the Pharmacy, 13th EvacHosp, WIARNG and that was a combat assignment during Operation Desert Shield/Storm, in Saudi Arabia.

I also worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as a Licensed Practical Nurse(GS6-6). My last ward duty was on the Psychiatric/PTSD Ward working mainly with the PTSD(Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) patients, also did the AM Phlebotomy on the night shift. After I was retired I had a lot of my former patient come up to me on the street or in a store and ask me if I was coming back. This was usually followed by something like "You were the only nurse that could draw my blood without it hurting." or "You were the only nurse that would sit down and listen to me at night." Later I heard this about me from the PTSD patients, it was said "If you have any problems at night or can not sleep, go see the tall red head. She's been there, done it." Hearing these things helped me in my early years of retirement. I was rated as unemployable following my retirement due to my service connected disorders and the medications I have to take for them. Having worked with the PTSD patients helped me with my own PTSD issues. I miss my patients, but not the job.

I have been collecting stamps off and on since 1975 while I was in the Navy, starting with Germany and all associated stamps. I have now expanded out to include not only all of Germany, but also Scandinavia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Island, Greenland and a few others.

Now that was more than you probably wanted to hear about a person, but that is me in a nutshell.

Welcome desertfox! I also did my time as a corpsman at Camp LeJeune.
Been retired from the Philadelphia fire department for the last year. Lots of time for the grand kids and stamps now.
