Family, I bought this at a show yesterday. After looking at it more critically at home, I think I may have a fake on my hands. Also. I have a scan of 339 and 334 together for comparative purposes. Comments?

I dont know of any problems with fakes on these, even nice MNH stamps are only worth but so much and what would you make it out of since its a one of a kind design. |

Instead of just asking for comments, why don't you write why you think it might be a fake? |

Thanks Bobby131313. So much for the learning experience. I think the 339 is a fake because it looks like the right margin has been perforated. It may have been imperf on that side originally. Also the stamp appears more narrow at the bottom than the top.
Stallzer, the scan is B&W. Not part of the discussion.

Looks like an imperf was perforated ... just to nice all the way around the stamp. Bottom perfs seem to be at a very slight angle for left to right.... Bottom stamp appears to be a bit wider also. |

Yes but when you said "fake", I think a lot of us thought "forgery" or similar and color would be important. If asking about reperforations just say so.
It doesn't look reperf'ed to me. A little rough, but not much more than the left. |

HungaryForStamps,
You are correct. The term, "Fake", may be inappropriate. I am only referring to the perforations on the right side. "Re-perf" may be the term I should have used. By the way, while there are no imperf $.13 W-F stamps, I was thinking that the right side of the sheet was imperforated and that this stamp was perforated to enhabce its value.

KGB,
I have not checked the watermark yet. Its either double or single. It would be real nice if it was single!

Bottom stamp appears to be a bit wider also. 13 cent imperforate material does not exist... I agree with Stallzer... aside from the perfs being a little irregular, due to their original tear-offs, the stamp looks fine... |

I agree that the 339 is probably fine. The stamp is a bit narrow compared to the norm, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's reperfed (the 4c posted for comparison is larger/wider than the norm.) The 13c stamp passes the "Srail test" (image below. The gauge is constant side-to-side & top-to-bottom & the lines of perfs are parallel.) Passing this test doesn't mean the perfs are definitely genuine, just that they're not obviously fake. A closer "in person" examination to look at cut, pressure ridges, etc. would be required. |

Thanks guys. It just looked funny to me, wider at the top. But, when I measured it, it came to 20mm at both the top and the at the bottom. Must be an optical illusion. I am happy to hear the consensus is that it is legigit.
