Hello everyone..Can someone please help me to identify these horizontal 3 George 2 stamps. what scott number is this?. I had checked a few times and perfs not making sense at all. it has to be 11, 10 1/2, 10.. The seller who sold it to me did not mark what scott number it could be either.
Appreciate any assistance..Thank you in advance..

Blazenstar, why do you have trouble determining the perforation? Do you have a gauge?

I know, I know Peter..shaking my head..lol..really I was checking with the perf gauge and continue to get different results..i wouldn't ask unless it was needed to know....it was showing 12. but the marking on back looks like a 11 cylinder.that is what bothered me.. so maybe dittrich could be correct..don't you think it is best I ask? smiles..it could be such a wonderful surprise if it is 11 x 11..smiles.

check the perfs on the long side, the top and bottom is 11 for sure since it has to be 11 or 10. The long side of the stamp will either be 10 1/2 ( 634) or 11 ( 554)

I felt I should try to hit a home run today..I took out the Babe Stamp in honor of the World Series.I purchased these stamps the other day.It would be a nice find if, and only if they are a rotary press 595..

I dont really know how to tell rotary from flat plate by seeing a picture, you have to measure them or use a template.

Another question..if it is perforated 11 on all sides and rotary press doesn't it mean the stamp is a 595?..those are made from coil waste stamps..does that look like one from the back or does that have a different appearance?

you would need the design size to be the same as a 634 and the perferations to be like a 554 check this page http://www.stampsmarter.com/1847usa...entifier.htm

It is definitely not a flat plate..with flat plate the gum is smooth over the whole back and with no gum ridges or gum breaks..This definitely has gum ridges and can see this clearly..

between the colors and sizes of perfs, markings and designs ect..that is the front of stamp.and backing of stamp matters too.flat plate, rotary, or offset ect....conditions,used and unused.it is an art when examining the stamps. smiles

.It definitely cannot be a flat plate. The interesting thing about this stamp is that the back of stamp has those markings..the plate for a rotary was stretched to fit around the curve rotary cylinders. those marking in white on the gum in back looks like the markings of this manner..i have not seen stamps in past with this distinct look at all on the back of stamps with gum..so that is one of the reasons why I decided to purchase these stamps..smiles
