dittrich, I wouldn't remove the stamp from the cover unless you absolutely had to do so.

The cover with the stamp on it is worth way more than if you take the stamp off, wait for some of the people who are real good at grills to answer

I count 12x15 points which would make it a small F grill. The vertical range, to my eye, is from the top of the letter "U" at LL to Washington's forehead just above the eyebrow.

Horizontally it appears to run from the right edge of the cancellation to just left of the letter "U."

If you change the angle of the incident light and do not diffuse it, it will give another view, and the count may change. Keep the light source low so the beam falls across the surface. Make sure that the light comes from only one direction and is not diffused. Then post a second image with the light coming from 90 degrees off of THAT picture. These should show everything we may be able to see.

Grill Question also.

Again on cover, quite difficult for beginners, so maybe some grill expert might recognize it straight away..?

@remco

I can count 11 points across by counting left to right across the third row up from the bottom. But for that the first point must be inferred by the presence of a column of points above that spot.

For the vertical count I count 16 rows of points, by working my way up from the bottom and moving between columns. The first row cuts across the base of the bust just above the center arch, and row 16 cuts across the top of the forehead, just below the top of the head. But that is what I see from the picture. There may in fact be another row above row 16, and there may be (probably is) another column to the right of the last column I see in the pic.

Based on my limited view from the pic, this looks like an F-grill (#94). [You might want to check with ray.mac to make sure I got the number right. ]

Dittrich, I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but you've had several lately where you were chasing rainbows...im thinking the 1c you were wondering if it could be a Z grill.

What are you seeing on this that makes you think it is points up? Or a big grill?

You have several images and they're all in different light, I don't know which is the actual shade. It doesn't look like a big grill, and it is not points up. If you can't see at least 14 columns, it can only be called either 94 or 94a, depending on the shade. The larger images look rose 94a, and the cover looks like a normal 94, at least on my phone.

Less than 14 columns = F grill
14 columns = E grill (if grill is horizontal, Z), but you can't ever assume this, since they are rare.
15 = D grill, again, rare.

Hope this helps......nice cover, but common.
Ray
