I am very pleased to see that you only lifted the stamp and did not cut the cover. That is commendable.

price from stamp of cover compared to only stamp. the cover had for me not a historic interest.
For a dedicated philatelist, price is not the best measure of the value of an item. In exhibiting the term that is used is "philatelic significance" This stamp off cover is nice in appearance, but it has less philatelic significance than if it had always remained on cover. It could still be shown as it is, if the stamp is hinge mounted back into position, so all is not lost.
I am quite sure that if we have been given a bit more opportunity to tweak the imagery we could have determined the grill size without removing the stamp. But it takes patience.
In the end, what you do with the material in your possession is your business, but please remember that your choices and actions will have consequences; consequences for the material and consequences for your reputation. Let me suggest to you and anyone: if you own an item like this that is philatelically significant in ways that you do not understand or that do not interest you, then preserve it as trading material unaltered until you can get it into the hands of someone who can appreciate it.
To me it is about showing proper respect.
