You all had me worried about Kansas and Nebraska fakes. So I quickly checked the complete set of MH Kansas that I recently purchased for $42.00. Whew! Gum breaks, gum ridges, no "embossing" of the gum and overprint measurements are all right on the money. Thanks so much for the info!

Congratulations!

Here's something odd. I've helped collectors weed out K-N fakes many times, but I've actually never bothered to check the set I have! I got it as part of a larger collection purchase containing something else I wanted, so I won't be disappointed if they turn out to be fakes. Not a high priority for me right now, but one of these days I should check!

The APS sells a really good reference book on the Kansas-Nebraska, at a very inexpensive price. You may wish to invest in this book if you are going to collect these stamps.

I second that recommendation.

The name of the 33-page book is "Counterfeit Kansas-Nebraska Overprints" by Schoen and DeVoss. The APS sells a paperback reprint for $4.80+S&H to APS members (higher price for non-members).

These 2 authors also wrote on this topic in the April 1972 issue of the American Philatelist, in case anyone has access to archives.

An alternative (more limited on the K-N issues, but much broader coverage of other stamps/topics) is "How to Detect Damaged, Altered, and Repaired Stamps" by Paul W. Schmid. If you buy expensive stamps, this book is inexpensive and well worth the money. Or, if you are like me, it's just great reading for the information/knowledge!
