This ebay auction has about 6 days left. It is listed as a #14, but is it? The right bottom corner ornamentation (curved lines) appear partially absent, but the left bottom corner ornamentation looks complete. In comparing to certified copies of #13 and #14 on Siegel Auctions and US Phila, I can't find a complete left lower design EXCEPT in the #13. However, some certified #13's show break in the curved lines in the lower right (although, the ebay stamp seems to be even more so).

Perhaps this is a late printing of #13 where the right design has worn from the plate or an early printing of #14 where the left design looks intact?

Any experienced collectors of this design care to weigh in? (or anyone else, for that matter?)

I'm of the opinion that it's a #13. It can't be #14 because the top lines above the X's are clearly missing. I believe it is a #13 rather than #15 because the line on bottom is nearly complete and the bottom shells on both sides are practically complete--though a little worn on the right. The #15 will have the line almost completely missing and the shells on both sides will be broken/missing most all of the bottom parts.

After reviewing the descriptions in both the Scott and Michel catalogs, I believe its a Type 1 so my vote is for #13. The lines on the top are missing and the shells appear to be complete.

Did some additional digging, and this is definitely a #13. The definite sign is the pair of guide dots to the lower left of the design. They are in that position only on the bottom row of the plate for this design, which was the location of Type I, #13 stamps.

Thanks for the research lukusw. I stand corrected. The weak details in the lower-right shell threw me off. Below is the stamp in the ebay lot at left with a #13 from my collection at right, which shows more shell detail.

The seller advertised "no defects noticed," but it clearly has a heavy vertical crease and a tiny cut at lower right.

The crease is visible on the back between the arrows.

Classic Coins, I agree on the faded lines in the right lower design. It made me doubt as well. The guide dot info was obtained from the US Classics Stamp Society excellent electronic library:

Thanks, lukusw! It's extra nice when you can get these classics with relatively face-free cancels.

Here's a 2400 DPI closeup of the bottom:

Finally got to look at the Neinken 1855-59 10-cent document. Thanks for posting the link, lukusw!

Did anyone here win the ebay lot?
