Interesting - I'm actually moving away from regular postal issues to concentrate on proofs. As a designer, I find progress essays intriguing, and I love the beautiful impressions of die proofs. I also love the cost/rarity ratio.

I don't collect them because there are enough real stamps tugging in my wallet (and I don't like how much Langs is involved with them)

Guess I missed this one when it was first posted. I can't call myself a proof collector, but on occasion I will pick one up for a reasonable price. I don't collect essays due to their price, but find them fascinating as representations of the design history of a stamp.

Yes. R99a catalogs $3,500, and R99c catalogs $3,000. I got R99p4 from the APS Stamp Store for $80, so I at least have an example of the $20 Probate of Will until I can afford the real thing.
