Family,

Linn's announced that the cost of collecting one each of the 2015 stamps dropped to its lowest levels in 12 years. The cost was $55.03, down from $102.26 in 2014. Little consolation in my opinion. Its still overpriced. And you have to buy 12 or 20 stamps in most instances.

You have it easy. Back in 1893, buying just the Columbian issue would have set you back the equivalent of $400 in today's dollars.

Exactly what price were you hoping to pay, and for how many stamps?

cjpalermo1964,

Truth of the matter is that when we fill those "holes" in the 2015 MYSTIC supplement, the final cost will be way north of $50-. If I wasn't an addicted "hole-filler", I would have abandoned collecting modern US stamps long ago.

I have always found Linn's annual cost totals for US stamps to be way, way below what I actually spend on new issues. Just the two Hunting Permit stamps alone cost $25 a piece. Nonetheless, not all collectors buy these two annual revenues.
