I won this from my first SAN auctions. It's PSE certified 85. I'm not sure what that means but it's really cool. All in was $30 so I think I did pretty good of an example in this condition. My reason for posting this (other than it's my first single at auction) is that I was studying perferations and wondered what every one thought of the perferation quality of this particular stamp. BTW..the shadow on the right of the stamp is my arm blocking the light...yeah I gotta work on the photography... Thanks for the help... wp62 *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

I don`t mean to deflate your happiness, but I think you paid too much for the perforated stamp. It looks like a great stamp, though, and if you`re happy, then we are all happy for you. |

LOL...thanks KGB. I kinda thought so. It was $26 but I forgot about the buyer's fee and s & h.
It was my first auction purchase so I don't mind too much..and I like to so...I'll figure it out.
Next step is to get a catalog... |

I think you did fine; it is a well-centered and very attractive stamp. The approximate retail for this would be $20 if original gum lightly hinged and $45 for never hinged (using the SMQ values from PSE for #372 graded 85 since this has a PSE graded cert). I don't know which gum condition yours is (the cert will tell you) but either way you surely didn't overpay egregiously. By the way, #372 is not as common as some might think in grades above VF (80). In my experience, it is less common than the imperforate #373 in the higher grades, even though the comparable grade retail values for #373 are higher than those for #372.

Kevin, I was composing my message while you responded so glad to see you and I are in general agreement. You have seen a lot more 372s and 373s in high grades than I have, so is your experience similar to mine that the #372s, while not rare at all, seem to be less prevalent in high grades than would be anticipated? |

While it's true that the centering on 372 is inconsistent, there are a LOT of NH examples that are graded 85 plus lots of ungraded equivalents. And of course there are plenty of well centered imperfs, they had a much higher collector interest, were carefully cut, and have a high survival rate. That's why the mint catalog values are so relatively close, only about double for 373 even though there were 76,634,631 of 372 and only 216,480 of 373. And why the used 373 cats more. It's a nice stamp, but you did pay for it. |

Of course being happy with it is very important, and after all $30 is not such a lot of money in any case, but some silly things were said in this thread and it seemed a good idea to make sure that everyone had a chance to see why they were silly. |

This stamp can easily be found with good to very good centering & perfs. That being said I don't think you over paid for it either. Sure you could wait it out and eventually find one elsewhere and saved $10. Lovely stamp ! |
