Can one tell with the bottom cut away? (This isn't the edge of a sheet, is it?!) |

Hi KGB, it may indeed be the edge of a sheet - I scanned the stamp as is - and the bottom appears cut away. |

It's a Type V, Scott #24. With the bottom cut off it wouldn't be worth grading no matter what it is. People that care about graded certs, me not being one of them, could tell you better but I am not sure if PSE would even grade a stamp with such a defect. |

You might want to think twice about that. Your other social media postings suggest that you are about to launch an online site to sell graded stamps. If so, posting requests to identify common US stamps like this one tends to undermine your credibility as a dealer with knowledge of your products. The identification of this series of stamps is straightforward and there are many identification guides on the internet. In addition, the discussion forum isn't really the place for dealers to promote their inventory, or identify items for sale.

Cjpalermo, we understand your concern. Although if your read a few messages back, we had agreed it was Scott Number 24 - we just wanted a second opinion.
As far as the credibility of our website goes - the assessors at PSE, PSAG, or the likes have hundreds of years of combined experience - GSE only deals in graded stamps.
Not once in this topic did we promote, nor even mention the launch of our website. But thanks for looking into us. :)
Some say stamp collecting is a dying hobby - and I can see why the younger generation is so apprehensive to jump into the hobby. Many from the philatelic community are quick to scoff at others. |

I'm very well a Newby here and I am not trying to stir the pot here but you said "Not once in this topic did we promote, nor even mention the launch of our website", but then you also stated this "As far as the credibility of our website goes" now; I ask do you or do you not have a web site?? Also, you came on as if you were a single person asking for help or an opinion as "yeah that was what I was thinking" when chasa replied, but then sinclair2010 replied and you stated "we have similar stamps, but ours are better." Whose to say if yours or y'all's are better than sinclair2010's. Too me and only me that is a punch in the mouth. Again I ask is it I or we? Also, if you or ya"ll sell graded stamps and you are here asking what number this stamp is I fully agree with cjpalermo1964 when this was mentioned "If so, posting requests to identify common US stamps like this one tends to undermine your credibility as a dealer with knowledge of your products." I don't think no no I know I wouldn't be purchasing stamps from you or y'all. Sorry if my southern attitude came out sometimes it can't be helped. Newby |

Any waning interest in stamp collecting, shouldn't be laid at the feet of the members on this site. |

The reason maybe it's not the philatelic community at all, maybe just maybe it's lays with people like you and y'all that the younger generation is so apprehensive to jump into the hobby. Maybe the younger generation is afraid of being burnt from someone that is suppose to know stamps especially if you are selling graded stamps and don't know what the number is of a certain stamp . Things of this nature is what gives the philatelic community a bad rap and makes it hard for the real collectors and sellers that actually knows stamps. Shame, shame. |
