Maybe face value... damaged, so no real resale value

may be face value ????? for use to post something but not to collectors

Awwww... come on 66, lighten up. Surely you have need of a 1/2 cent stamp on occasion.

From 1982-88, I was required to file paper returns by the Infernal Revenue Service. I applied appropriate postage in 1/2-cent stamps, just to be a jerk.

I do have 1/2 cent , they usually look more like this :

You could find 97 just like it and mail a letter in the USA.

I see the OP has posted a number of "what is it worth" queries. Unfortunately, they are - as the old saying goes - "a dime a dozen".

Sadly its a very common theme, folks coming across albums or envelopes of old stamps and the "old age" is equated to value. Well, as most of us know, its highly unusual to come across a stamp of value issued after WWII - which was 70 years ago.

But, I can't blame folks for trying, for most people have little insight into the postage stamp history.

This is part of the hunt...Most (NEW) guys that have NO idea of stamps and there value and have come across say, their grand dads old stamp collection..They ask us (we are suppose to be the so called experts) to help them...I enjoy it that they may have something and we SHOULD BE POLITE and help others..Just my opinion.

If I am wrong, then please tell me.

well...you maybe correct..maybe he/she causing trouble on purpose, and maybe we should monitor our site better.

Or maybe he/she does not know how our process works or how to address us in what we think is a standard procedure.

If it is too much trouble to answer a thread, then just ignore it. I don't get being upset just because a newbie asks for information in a format you don't like. There is no mandatory requirement for you to read or respond or even comment.

Frankly, I believe part of the forum's purpose/mission is to encourage people to be interested in stamps and stamp collecting. Rude or belittling responses defeat that purpose. I try to answer newbie question straight forward and if appropriate, provide advice or guidance. I guess in the future, my replies to newbies will have to include a warning that the newbie question may upset and anger some "Pillar of the Community" types.

This is where I come to ask questions about stamps that I do not know which is a lot. I have a few books of the so called grand dad buts except its the G.grandad. Heck I'm learning and probably will be learning for the rest of my life because one doesn't know everything.

Sometimes you can look at the pictures but still that may not be enough until someone like here on the forum enlightens you say about color,perfs, variations so forth. To me its the little things that mean the most. Its not where you live, what you drive or the price tag on your clothes. I am very grateful for the help I get here on the forum.

There are no "know it all" on the stamp collecting universe. But the collective experience, knowledge and wisdom of the forum members comes close. Thank you everyone for help and contribute to expanding that universe of knowledge.
