Here is a possible #456 rotary coil on ebay. At first glance, I thought it looked pretty good. The size is decent and the flat edges are parallel or close to it. However, on 2nd look, a handful of the perfs on the left don't look typically oval to me (which to my eye looks like a slight flattening at the base of the perf hole) AND the perf line on the right is meandering. I was just curious what you all thought.

look at a pair , when you separate the stamp the fibers are pull away from the stamp, that's what make it look oval or with a flat base.

That's not a recommendation on the one on ebay, just a comment.

Perfs on the right definately look suspicious. The left not much better. Im sure someone with way more experience with Wash/Frank will chime in, but a pass for me on this stamp.

my opinion: perfs look fine, I would be careful it is really watermarked.

On the single coil stamp pictured, the perforation edges on the right side are very unevenly aligned - either fake or reperforated.

The stamp is a rotary press horizontal coil, either a type I 493 or 456, probably the former. A 456 would have a vertical (sideways to the design) watermark. The watermark on flat plate coils would be horizontal, aligned with the design.

The rotary press stroke perforators used at the time were known to produce misaligned perforations. Fairly dramatic examples are not difficult to find. The attached image is a type III unwatermarked 488 line pair.
