Hi Classic coins.
They were in a mixed auction lot which I brought for the mint 2005 Sovereign in its original packet. Paid £68 for the whole bundle so I'm not at all looking to make money on these. I'm really just wondering if a good home for them can be found. From many of the comments the "Rubbish bin" or "Trash can" looks like the best option.

Sellers will take a batch of material like this, which is virtually unsellable as it is, and pair it with a nice item to "sweeten" the "deal" for a potential buyer of the good item. Chances are they can get a higher percentage on the price of the good piece than they would if it was sold solo. The buyer is gulled into going a bit higher than otherwise on the assumption that he can dump the dross for at least a portion of the package price.

So, you could take a few nice pieces, add them to the mix, and reserve the bundle for about what you would want to get for the few good pieces. Anything above that is gravy.

You could give the lot to a child with the challenge to identify the year of issue, subject and value based on catalog listings, but that would be sort of like giving an empty peanut butter jar to a Labrador retriever.
