Does this cancel look like a ordinary X or is it a different cancel all together on this #183?
Your time and knowledge is greatly appreciated.
I could draw some teeth and eyes and make it a shark. Then it will look like Jackson is being eating by a shark.

Here is a poor scan of a #114 with a more complete strike of this simple cross. My library is packed away while I remodel but categorizing this as a "Maltese" seems a stretch to me, but I can kinda see it ...
