I know I'll never get a complete set, just starting with later dates. More wanted to show that yes, I am in fact all over the place and looking for good outlets other than ebay to buy a little of everything in bulk. I think mostly I enjoy the searching through lots and figuring out what stamps are and getting excited about filling holes. I started expanding more towards cut squares and revenue since I can still get lots for cheap and find a number of stamps I don't have. The space fillers question was more from what I saw online from people saying they wouldn't pay much more than 5-10% of Scott for bad looking space fillers and I've found that on ebay that a lot of bad looking stamps that would be between $20-$100 Scott still go for a fair amount even if they are ugly as sin.

If you are looking at active listings, then 'go for' is actually 'have not yet gone for'.

Serious price research requires looking at completed sales and, at a certain level, being aware of shills.

One of the things I like best about being a bottom feeder - paying for my hours of entertainment, rather than paying for the stamps/covers/cards - is that price rarely matters.

Cheers,

Not really sure what you mean but I guess I can clarify what I meant by go for. I've bid on stamps that are unattractive and some still seem to sell far closer to low book value considering the condition they are in. So I guess I just have too keep trudging along and slowly build my collection up through ebay and try and find some needed stamps or save up for a bit and try and buy a couple of lots with stamps I need.

Ray: If you are nominating me for president in the hope of a cross-nomination for treasurer, fuggedaboudit.

Continuing on this theme: I don't 'collect', or maintain a 'collection' ... I 'acquire & retain', and I have 'piles'.

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey

Ikey, sorry to hear about the hemorrhoids. Common hazard among folk who sit too much.

As for the acquire and retain, is that something that eventually will get attention as a collection, or are you hoping eventually to clean up (on) these piles?

I've got a couple of boxes that I have glassine envelopes with Scott numbers. I am slowly sorting my box of "put away some day" duplicate stamps. I pull it out every now and than when I don't have stamps to go through and can just mindlessly go through while watching a movie or something.
